Despair.com’s legendary Caption Contest will return, offering clever commenters the chance to compete to win a $300 cash prize if they submit the most brilliant caption for the photo above.

And this, in what will probably prove to be an epic failure, Despair is planning to allow captions to be submitted VIA DISQUS, the commenting system.  You’ll be able to Upvote and Downvote other entries en masse.  And chances are, it’ll be a gigantic, chaotic mess.  But since a similar system somehow seems to sorta work for The Daily Mail, we figured we’d give it a try.

We suggest you all format your entries like this dummy entry:

“My Dumb Title: If you think my title is dumb, wait ’til you read my caption.” 

Don’t include extraneous information in your submission, or else you’re likely to get downvoted by others.  (At least, we think you will. Unless this just breaks completely.)  Also, try not to submit dumb captions.  Always a helpful tip!

UPDATE:  Well, looks like our attempts to break the blog WORKED.  We’re going to suspend entries in this contest and try this again after we upgrade the server hosting. (i.e. fire our provider).  We will try this again once we’ve migrated to the next provider!  (Sorry for the disappointing news but hey, it’s a Beta Test.)
